Suffered Due to Teachings That Destroyed Lives

My parents joined the Worldwide Church of God in 1964 when I was only 4 years old. I left in 1995. I don't know why it took me so long to leave. My three children are also survivors.

One of my daughters started going to counseling and her counselor gave her the ESN web site when she found out she was raised in this cult. I have been reading some of the articles and writings and it made my heart very sad and I starting sobbing. Your website certainly has given me the reason why I and my three children suffer from PTSD and anxiety.

In the 1960s HWA had several teachings that destroyed peoples lives. Many couples joined WCG that had been previously married and were told that they were living in sin and the only way they could continue going to church was to no longer be married [live apart or separate]. Many happy families were broken because of this divorce and remarriage teaching.

Also, they did not believe in going to doctors when sick. When I was 10 years old, I had strep throat that turned into rheumatic fever [rheumatic heart disease]. I remember the ministers coming over to the house and anointing me with oil. They also brought a bottle of red wine and had me drink a small glass (really, a 10 year old!) and told me it would help build up my iron. (Antibiotics would have taken care of the strep.) I now have mitral valve problems from the rheumatic fever and will soon need a repair or replacement.

Most of the children I grew up in with in WCG have all types of problems. Some of them did not survive the mental abuse which was very prevalent in the earlier years. Their problems extend to alcoholism, drug addictions, anxiety and other phobias.

I have so many horror stories of what the Worldwide Church of God ministers did to their congregations. I will be back on this web site as well as my daughter for our healing process.

Thank you so much for all the help that you are doing for so many people.
